Dear Preschool Parents, Preschool was rich and exciting this week as we explored Seeds/Garden/Green as our themes. Saint Patrick’s day was Tuesday and we celebrated by making delicious shamrock cookies! The children really enjoy sitting and rolling out the dough, and they get a kick out of eating their creations later. We had plenty of green around the classroom with a fun collage activity all in green. The children also enjoyed making shamrock window stickers that are decorating our classroom. Spring has finally come and we are really excited about our garden. The children enjoyed planting peas this week, and they will get to do a lot more gardening in the coming weeks. Circle time has been full of fun stories, songs, and fingerplays about gardening and seeds. One fingerplay the children really enjoy is called “This is my garden”. It goes like this: This is my garden, I’ll rake it with care, And then a little flower seed I’ll plant in there. The sun will shine, The rain will fall, And my garden will blossom, And grow straight and tall.
Your child can probably teach you the hand motions to this poem if you read it with them. Finally, on Thursday we were supposed to go to the library for story time with Nita. Unfortunately she was sick, but we will reschedule soon.
Spring and Birds will be our theme for preschool this coming week. We will be making bird food with a birdseed and corn syrup mixture this week. The kids enjoy hanging the food up on our trees and waiting for birds to come and visit. We will make new playdough this week, and we have also filled the sensory table with birdseed. The children will get to paint a petal this week to add to a big flower we will create together, and we will also make tissue paper flowers. We are planning on going on a bird-watching walk this week-binoculars and all! A Funhouse visit is planned for Wednesday which is always a good time. The children really have a great time exploring and playing in the Funhouse, and we are so thankful to have the space all to ourselves! Circle time will continue with fun songs like “Inch by Inch” and fingerplays, and of course great books. (Thanks Holly!) Finally, if possible we would love parents to bring in ½ gallon cardboard milk containers to preschool this week. We plan to make some great birdfeeders. Overall it should be a fun Springy week! Let’s hope the weather cooperates!
Just a reminder that our family dance is next weekend on March 28th from 6-8pm at the Oddfellows Hall. Sign up sheets are in the preschool and ITC for bake sale items, and for volunteering. Thanks so much in advance. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful group of parents at Children’s House. It really is your school and we appreciate your time, suggestions, and presence. Have a great week! Jenny, Amy, and Tess.
