Dear Preschool Parents, Hope you all had a great first week of spring. At preschool this week we explored the themes of Birds and Spring. On Tuesday we went on a Bird Walk looking for birds all around us. The kids practiced being very quiet and listening for the sounds of birds. It was a fun exploration with many bird sightings. Some children enjoyed making bird feeders from ½ gallon cardboard milk cartons. This art project is really fun, and we will continue it this coming week-but we need more cartons!! If you have any milk or juice cartons please bring them in. Thanks so much in advance. We also made tissue paper flowers this week which turned out beautifully. The children also got to help make bird food with bird seed, flour, and water. Some children really like to feel this icky sticky mixture-what a great sensory experience. On Wednesday we walked to the Funhouse with the children and had a great time playing there. We got into the garden a bit this week as well and planted some more peas. The children have been discovering lots of worms this week-one of the joys of gardening!! On Friday we had a special surprise visit from a young woman violinist and her son. She played the violin and sang with her son and all of us. The kids really enjoyed their visit, and they even donated a great CD to us. It was quite a treat, and a great way to end the week. Preschool should be a lot of fun this coming week as we explore Shadows and Moon Phases as our theme. We will sing some fun moon songs and read great moon stories at circle time. The light table will be set up to do shadow tracing. Hopefully we will have some sunshine so we can do sun prints outside. For the sun prints we have some great paper that you can put a leaf or anything else on in the sun-and later you take it off and there is a shadow of the object left on the paper. We will also be doing some moon painting, and setting up the dramatic play area for some shadow puppet fun. Baking is always fun for the children, and we will get to make moon cookies this week. As I mentioned above we will still continue to make bird feeders this week and get busy in the garden! It should be a great week. Finally, we would like to thank all of you who attended, helped out, and baked for the Family Dance Night. It was such a success! The party was a blast with happy kiddos and great music! (Thanks Keri and Ed)!!! We had a wonderful turn out and I think everyone had a really good time. We are so thankful for all the delicious baked goods that got donated. The goodies that did not sell at the party were being sold today outside the market. We are very appreciative of everyone’s hard work that went into making this a successful fundraiser. See you at the next Family Dance Night on April 18th hosted by Kaleidoscope. Your children are so fun to be around each day. Thank you for sharing them with us. It is a privilege.
Jenny, Amy, and Tess.
