July 5, 2009

Dear Preschool Parents,
Preschool was very fun this week as we explored our theme Life’s a Beach. The children visited Crescent Beach and came back with lots of treasures to share and talk about. In the classroom we used sea life stamps, decorated fish and seahorses, and made a Beach mural. Outside time has been a blast lately with fun new sprinklers to play in and lots of sunshine. We even had a picnic lunch outside this week. The garden is doing great and the children picked greens for a salad that we enjoyed eating with lunch. There is something very rewarding about picking and eating food from a garden. The children are willing to try more new things when they actually pick it. Making grape popsicles also happened this week, and the eating them was the best part. Overall it was a fun, sunny week.

Thank you all who participated in the Fourth of July parade. The kids had a great time decorating tricycles this week and the parade was such a great way to show off our wonderful school. Our Mayor of Eastsound fundraiser was an amazing success. Thanks to everyone who was involved with the election, and of course thanks to all of you who voted. We wish Dakota a wonderful term in office! Congratulations!

Next week at preschool we will be talking about Water. The children will visit Cascade Falls and have lunch at Mountain Lake. It should be a great field trip. In the classroom we will make our own waterfall, create 3-D sea creatures, and get messy with corn starch and water. The children will get to make new journals this week and start using them to write or draw about the field trips they have been going on, as well as other topics. Journals are a great way to build pre-literacy skills, and the children really enjoy creating and dictating their own story. A final note; Teacher Tess will be out all week on vacation, but we have great subs that the children all know and are familiar with. Have a great week!
