Dear Preschool Parents,

Last week was our second week of walking field trips, taking us to the Historical Museum in Eastsound, where the children toured and caught glimpses of our Northwest past including a look at the totem pole outside representing our Native American past. A picnic lunch at the grounds followed.
In the classroom we read stories and myths from the Native American culture, which intrigued the children and the teachers. One book was about the legend of the Dreamcatcher and we made a dream catcher and decorated it. It’s hanging in the classroom for you to see.
We practiced our “Tidepools” song and explored some of the living things that are found there by filling our water table with water, rocks and plastic marine life.
Our garden is flourishing, and harvesting of strawberries, peas, fennel, lettuce, kale and flowers is in full swing! The raspberries are on the horizon and are yummy!
This has been a transitional week for everybody, what with new students, summer, field trips and some alterations of staffing. For the summer, Tess now works on Mondays only, Amy is working at the Infant/Toddler Center, and Emilie Gincig, our high school teacher’s aid from last summer is with us again for the field trips and in the classroom for the afternoons and all day Friday. Jenny is still here but taking a few days off here and there while family visits. Becky, our afternoon teacher is gone for most of the summer. We will keep you updated on changes when they come.
Next week our field trip is to the Fire Station and we will learn about fire safety in the classroom by doing activities by Max the firefighter.
Next Sat., July 3rd, Children’s House will be in the parade and all students and their families are invited to participate. Red, white and blue are the colors and the parade will mark the culmination of the Mayoral campaign. Please join us in the festivities!
Jenny, Tess, Amy, Khadoma, Bari, and Cara

Quote of the week: At the museum, while looking at a furnished room in the old cabin, Megan asked, “are the people who lived there dead?” When the teacher answered yes, Megan commented, “Well, look, they forgot to take their apples!”
