Dear Preschool Parents, We certainly got the hot weather we were asking for last week! The children cooled down by running through the sprinkler, creating rivers in the sandbox and playing at the water tables (inside and outside), with the marine life toys, and scoopers and buckets. All that water play helped balance out our fire safety unit, which focused more on outdoor fires and how to prevent them. The children enjoyed listening to two books in particular: "Smokejumpers, 1,2,3" and "Firefighters ABC". At circle we sang our firefighter song, "One firefighter went out to spray......" which is an interactive song and the children seemed inthused to join in when called. In the art area we painted a forest to go up on the bulletin board and some individual campfires using red-orange painted handprints as the flames. Everyone enjoyed the trip to the fire station, and this week our field trip will take us to the Right Place Pottery where Trudi Erwin (the potter who has owned it for years) will give the children a hands on project and a tour of the whole place. In the classroom we will focus on several arts and crafts projects, including clay work, " water colors on ice" sculptures, ground berry juice painting( we'll grind with a mortar and pestle) and more. Jana is on vacation this week and will be out of her office. You may leave messages with Sigried, Bari or Jenny if you have any pressing business that needs addressing. Our fundraiser cooking classes ended last week with the Farm to Table dinner last Tuesday and the Tom Douglas class last Thursday at Red Rabbit Farm. Both events drew in approximately 70 people each and the food was delicious! The cooking series was a success and thanks to all who volunteered to help set up, prep cook, serve and clean up. A big thanks to Christina Orchid who made this possible, and to the chefs who donated their time by sharing their culinary skills! See you this week,
The staff at preschool!
Quote of the week: "Up there in the sky! It's a copterheller! You can tell because it can fly," by Dante, while outside.
