Dear Preschool Parents,
Summer is already half over and it doesn't seem possible! Luckily we have had some hot weather so the children have been able to enjoy more play time out in the yard. We have moved activities that would normally be inside the classroom out where the air is fresh and the sun is shining. Please fill out a permission form if you want us to apply sunscreen on your child. Last week we explored a variety of ways to use water colors, including ice sculptures, using droppers to drop the paint on the ice after it's been salted. This creates a neat, colorful linear pattern and the children spent a lot of time working on them. We also did watercolor spray painting on paper that was stapled to the fence. Both of these activities increase their fine motor skills which are needed when learning to print. We created our own water colors by mashing raspberries and blueberries. We were surprised at how similar the colors were and they smelled so good on the watercolor paper!
We also worked with clay in the classroom after going on the field trip to Right Place Pottery. During circle the children especially liked a book about a clay boy who was very hungry and greedy and got out of control and has to be stopped!
Next week is our trip to Cascade Falls and hopefully the weather will cooperate. Remember to pack a lunch for your child on their field trip day. We will make our own waterfall down the slide so please bring in extra clothes and swimsuits for your child. The hose will be trickling into the sandbox and there will be rivers being dug by many hands with shovels.
In the classroom we'll explore cornstarch mixed with water, make some stuffed paper fish to hang from the ceiling and make some fish prints using a real fish.
On Thursday those of us in the classroom will walk to the library for story time with Nita, the children's librarian.
If anyone could help weed the pathway from the parking lot to the pre-school front gate, that would be wonderful. Our path is beginning to disappear and we welcome any volunteers.
Thanks so much for supporting Children's House by sending your children here.
