Dear parents,

Last week at pre-school the children were involved in some “fishy” projects that kept us busy both inside and outside of the classroom. Waterfalls, rivers and the fish that swim in them provided us with some entertainment as we moved through our week.
In the classroom we read a story about an old lady who swallowed a trout, a take off on the old lady who swallowed a fly. Everybody thought it was funny and unbelievable!
Then each child had the opportunity to make a fish print by painting on a real trout and transferring the painted side onto a matt board. The children were intrigued by the real fish and liked touching and painting on it. The results are displayed on our bulletin board so please take a look…they’re impressive!
We also explored the wonders of dropping water colors onto cornstarch and watching what happens…another great sensory experience. The children focus on this for a long time.
Cascade Falls proved to be an adventurous field trip involving a hike in to the falls and back, and some people couldn’t keep themselves from getting wet, including Teacher Emilie!
In the yard we created a waterfall that spilled out of the hose into the sandbox and dug many winding rivers that sailed leaves, boats and other things. It was a good group effort with many hands working together.
On Thursday we walked to the public library for storytime with Nita, the children’s librarian. It was a successful walk and everybody sat for five stories, which is notable for pre-schoolers. Thank you Nita. We’ll try to take more short walks and get out in nature more often.
This week our field trip will take us to Mt. Constituion. Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s field trip children will go together on Wednesday since the numbers are lower this week only. Please send a lunch with your child for their field trip day.
In the classroom we will study clouds and talk about mountains. We’ll make some puffy glue/shaving cream clouds of our own, do some marble painting, and a couple of cooking projects. We may have a visitor come in and talk about mountain climbing if we’re lucky! Any volunteers?
Thanks and hope your week-end has been enjoyable. See you this week.

Quote of the week: When asked to use his inside voice in the classroom, Dayton replied, “But my mind is controlling me like crazy…that’s why I talk so loud!”
