Dear Parents,
Last week was a busy one and it went by very quickly. The children took their trip to Mt. Constitution and had a chance to see the clouds below them as they were driving to the summit. "I didn't know there were roads in the sky" quoted Megan as she noticed the road go above the clouds.
In the classroom we were busy making puffy clouds out of shaving cream and glue on cloud shaped paper. We also made puffy yeasted bread rolls for our lunch one day, and on Friday we baked a real thunder cake based on the book by that same name by Patricia Polacco. The only thing that was missing was the thunder storm which makes the cake taste better, so we fixed that by making our own storm by clapping and tapping our hands and stomping our feet...the result was delicious! The book was a charming story about a grandmother who finds a way to dispel her grandchild"s fear of thunderstorms.
We had a special visit last Thursday from Kinnen Murry, Teacher Amy's husband, who is a Moran State Park Ranger and likes to climb mountains. He brought all his mountain climbing equipment to circle time and explained to the children how to use it. You may hear new words like "clampons" and "ascenders" or "ice axe" which are needed by every mountain climber in helping them traverse the snow and ice. He demonstrated how you would climb out of a hole by having Logan wear a harness and use the rope and ascenders to climb up. It was cool to watch and the children were very interested! Thank you, Kinnen for coming.
Next week the weather is predicted to be sunny so remember a swimsuit and a towel for outside waterplay. The children really enjoy being outside and there is plenty to do in our big yard.
The theme for next week is farm animals and we will have a visit from some baby chicks. Activities will be farm related and we'll bring out our barn and animals and sing some songs related to the theme. Stories abound on this subject so we will be plenty busy!
August is the last month of summer so we will make it fun. Thanks for sharing your children with us.

Quote of the week: Logan, while holding up his fruit leather and studying it says, "Look, it looks like Minnesota!"
