Dear Parents Last week brought us to the end of our regular school year, culminating in our End of the Year Ceremony. The children made crowns for themselves early in the week and on Wednesday we baked herbal rolls for the potluck. It was also the last week for a few of our students and for teachers Tess and Teacher Pim (who worked two afternoons a week during the school year.)
After watching the weather on Thursday we decided to have the ceremony outside in our yard, which turned out to be a good decision. And the event was well-attended -- 60 people in all! There was plenty of food and fun to be had and the children were so proud of themselves. THANKS to all that came!
Linda Sheridan has taken the place of Tess – who plans on spending more time with her family this summer, doing some traveling – all while working on her Masters. This week we also welcomed a new aide, Emma Gallo-Chasanoff who will be here for the summer and is working on her teacher’s degree . Her father Mathew Chasanoff is a well-loved teacher at the Elementary School and her mother Laurie Gallo is a devoted midwife and nurse known by many here on Orcas.
This week we are stepping into summer (even though it’s raining today) and getting acquainted with our new students, Novin, Rider, Cole and Elijah and new teachers. The children will be making their own placemats for meal time and will have photos put on their cubbies. This should be a busy and exciting week of settling into our new schedule.
REMINDER: Parent’s please remember to bring extra clothes for your child’s cubbie. And as the weather gets warmer, bring a swimsuit and towel for waterplay. And don’t forget the sunscreen.
Thank you for bringing your children to Children’s House. They are wonderful!
Jenny, Emilie and Linda
Quote of the Week: Makenzie on the morning of our ceremony: “It’s okay. The weather will be good because I brought the rainbow and Ava brought the sun.”
