Dear Parents: Last week we “Stepped into Summer” by painting the bottoms of our feet and walking across long pieces of paper. The children were amused by the project. And most of them said the paintbrush tickled their feet. We hung the paper in the hallway and on the door for you to see
We filled our sensory table with blue colored water and put in sea creatures, rocks and shells. The children helped Teacher Jenny make new playdough and colored it pink; new playdough is so warm and fun to work with. On Thursday, Nita came and read books at circle-time. We love Nita’s visits, and she will come again this month.
Teacher Emilie was sick all week and the children drew pictures and get-well wishes for her. She will be back in the classroom this week. We really miss her….
Our new teachers Linda and Emma are doing a great job in the classroom and with the children. Linda is very energetic and creative and loves to do circle. And Emma has a very calm, quiet demeanor that draws the children in.
Next week we will be exploring dinosaurs. The children are always fascinated with these creatures. They are always exciting and a little scary. Our sensory table will be filled with “Jurassic Sand” which is super soft, fine and fun to dig in. There will be a felt-board activity that involves different dinosaurs in their habitat. Also we have a board game that matches dinosaurs with their names. A great book we will read is “If the Dinosaurs Came Back.” Outdoors in the sandbox, we will build a big volcano complete with lava. (Baking soda and vinegar are the magic ingredients of the lava.)
We will also include a baking project this week, as the children love to help prepare food.
We are adjusting to the new changes and looking forward to an enjoyable summer with a great group of children and teachers.
Remember sunscreen for your child; it is helpful if you apply it when you bring your child to school.
Thank you for bringing your children to Children’s House. They are wonderful! Jenny, Emilie and Linda
Quote of the week: Jimmy:“Teacher Emilie actually never gets me to sleep; I just show her my statue or hide under my arm until she goes away. I just pretend.”
