Dear Parents,
Last week we invited dinosaurs into our classroom and we also welcomed Teacher Emilie back after a week of absence. Both of those events created a lot of excitement for the children. Emilie was missed by all and we’re so happy that she’s feeling better. Our new teacher, Emma, filled in nicely and got plenty of experience with the class routine and got to know the children better. She is now filling in for Teacher Linda who will return Tuesday.

Dinosaurs appeared in many classroom areas; they tromped through the Jurassic sand in the sensory table; they were seen in the playdough. Dinosaur puzzles were put together by many hands and the felt board was covered by dinosaurs in their habitats. A popular board game matched dinosaurs and their names (some of which were difficult to pronounce!) Outside we built a large volcano in the sandbox that erupted when we poured red colored vinegar over baking soda that was in the top. The result: lots of frothy lava! Thanks to Holly King for supplying us with stacks of dinosaur books.

The children also worked on a project for their dads (or moms) and hopefully bookmarks made their way home! In addition, we welcomed Didier on Thursday for Circle.

This week we are switching to a beach theme. Hopefully the weather will cooperate as there is a low tide on Tuesday morning. We plan to walk to Indian Island (or at least the beach.) So, if your child comes on Tuesdays, please dress him/her accordingly. If your child does not come on Tuesdays, you may join us and we welcome any parent volunteers who wish to accompany us. The children always enjoy the beach and like the living creatures that hide under the rocks and in the tide pools. (We’ll be learning the names of tide pool dwellers, as well.) We will learn a new song called “Tide pools” and will be painting shells and other beach-related objects at the art table. If the weather is uncooperative, we will reschedule this outing. Hope you can join us!

Thank you for bringing your children to Children’s House. They are wonderful!

Jenny, Emilie, Linda and Emma
