Dear Parents,
There was a lot of excitement last week over our beach theme despite the rainy, in-climate weather. It cleared on Tuesday allowing us to walk to the beach as planned and the tide was low enough for us to walk around Indian Island. There were a total of 21 children and 9 adults there. Everyone enjoyed searching for tide pool creatures as well as shells, rocks and seaweed. One highlight occurred when we flipped over rocks and saw the crabs scurry for cover. Then we gently returned the rocks to their original position. Everyone proved to be strong walker and made it to the beach and back without complaints. We plan to repeat this field trip again when there is a low tide, and welcome any parent participation. A big thanks to adult volunteer who accompanied us. Photos are displayed in the hallway, check them out!
Back at the preschool the children learned our new song "Tidepools", painted shells at the art table, used fish stamps and learned an ocean lotto board game. On Thursday Nita came for story time and we always enjoy her visits.
Our garden has been an attraction this past week as there have been ripe strawberries to eat and flowers to pick. Lots of wild things too - greens for the bunnies and a few children have been seen eating raw kale. A teacher is alway in the garden when the children are there to oversee harvesting, watering and grazing. One day teacher Jenny found two garter snakes in the straw by the rabbit cages and caught one of them. We put it in the aquarium and made it comfortable with grass and rocks and observed it for a while before releasing it. Children love interacting with nature.
We will continue with our beach/ocean theme this coming week with more emphasis on marine animals and the sea. We'll be designing and stuffing paper fish to hang from the ceiling. Whale related activities will be explored and we'll learn a new song "Baby Beluga".
As the weather warms the children will be more involved in water play so please remember to send your child with a change of clothes as they tend to get wet. This should be a fun filled week!!!
Thank you for bringing your children to Children’s House. They are wonderful!
