Children's House is a special place for both local and visiting families and strives to create an atmosphere where children ages 1-6 learn and develop with the support of our nurturing team. Read what some of our families have to say about their experiences at Children's House.

"We spend several weeks each summer visiting family on Orcas, which is a wonderful respite from our Oklahoma heat but a long time away from daycare for our 15-month-old son Zack.  We were thrilled that Children's House had room in the toddler center for him this year. He thrived in the love and care of Teacher Katie and Teacher Erin.  The socialization with the other toddlers made him more confident in his walking, speech, and sign language.  He came home every day happy, tired, and dirty from the sensory table, paint, and time in the yard.  We can't wait for next summer so he can return to Children's House!"

"Our family loves Orcas Island Children’s House! We spent six weeks on Orcas during the summer of 2012, and our girls (ages 3 and 5) were fortunate to enroll at OICH. We were welcomed by a fabulous set of teachers; they took wonderful care of our girls. “School” was almost always their “highlight of the day.” They loved spending time in the large outdoor area – not only climbing on the pirate ship and riding bikes and trikes around the track, but also picking fresh produce from the garden and playing with Children’s House bunnies. The girls went on field trips to Indian Island, the airport and the library – the teachers always found fun things to explore, and our girls never wanted to go home at the end of the day.

We really liked the focus on the environment, as well as the flexibility of the daily schedule – especially the fact that nap time/rest time were optional rather than required. And the weekly updates from Teacher Jenny kept us in the loop about what had happened, what was planned, and what funny things the kids said."

"My family spent the entire summer on Orcas Island, where both of my daughters, ages 2 and 4, attended the Children's House full-time. We continue to visit the island on a regular basis and the staff always opens their doors to us and makes us feel right at home. It's as if we never left -- and there are times I wish we hadn't! My oldest says she wishes Teacher Jenny could be her teacher all the time and my youngest always talks about Teacher Katie and her other friends in the toddler room. I have been more than impressed with the quality of the staff, the creativity of the curriculum, and the general learning environment. The Children's House is such a special place for us and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for full-time, part-time, or just drop-in care for their little ones. I feel confident leaving my children there for the workday -- it's like leaving them with family."
